Tuesday Morning Meeting Speaker Schedule 

Shorewood Kiwanis Club meets on the First and Third Tuesdays of each month. Meeting location noted above. As of our 9.20.16 meeting, it wll be our last at Steves Back Room in St. Clair Shores. For the balance of this year, our bi-monthly meetings will be located at Ram's Horn, at 9 & Jefferson in St. Clair Shores.  We bid Steve's back room a fond adieu, for the only reason for change is that they are cancelling their breakfast service.   Our morning meetings are terrific for learning about Kiwanis, finding out what is going on in our community and getting to know interesting people. If you are looking for volunteer oppurtunities or would like to get more involved in the community, this is the place for you!  If you are interested in speaking at one of our morning meetings, please e-mail  or call at 586-350-5219.

Club Secretary Colin Casey.  Colin will be presenting the process for all members to create a profile on the Kiwanis International website.  This is very important as it allows members access to educational tools, on line classes and more.  Use of the KI web page is important, as it can fill in the blanks for any member who isn't familiar with all aspects of what it means to be a Kiwanian, and how our parent company supports everything we do.  Projector and computer so step by directions will be illustrated.  Additionally, Karen Biafora will give us a refresher on how to make our projects and events go VIRAL through the use of social media.

We are honored to have these two civic minded young women present to our club, with a focus on recruiting, attracting and most importantly keeping the millenial generation engaged with older Kiwanis clubs.  A terrific day for an interclub!

Heather Schmuckel, Macomb County Chamber of Commerce -  will be joining us this day for a brief talk about membership with the chamber, but more about the impact the Chamber makes for the business community, the community itself and advocating for the county. Heather isthe director of Business Development for the Chamber and the Macomb Foundation. P.S. The Chamber now has a community calendar on our website. Also on this day, Linda Manina, Committe chair for Human and Spiritual Values will be presenting, checks to all our Vacation Bible Recipients. Meeting is open only to Shorewood Members, award recipients and their families.

Mr. Kevin Szawala (aka "Mr. Peace"), will be speaking on "Reaching Hearts, Changing Lives." Mr. Peace left corporate America in 2010 to devote his time and efforts on his greater passion, of working with today's use and making an impact on their lives.  A national speaker, his focus and approach is different and unusual and his programs are heart-hitting and life-changing for K thru 12 students. He presents on a variety of topics including including: Character Empowerment, Purpose, Suicide & Substance Abuse Prevention and many more.  You can learn more aabout Mr. Peace by visiting his website at This proves to be an informative and interesting presentation. Ms. Jessica Ayoub - Forgotten Harvest

Jessica Ayoub is the Community Engagement Coordinator at Forgotten Harvest. She joined the organization in January 2016 after completing her MSW at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor in December 2015. She also holds a Bachelor of Art in Social Relations & Policy from Michigan State University. Prior to joining Forgotten Harvest’s team, Jessica worked at several non-profit organizations in the metro Detroit area. Forgotten harvest is dedicated to relieving hunger and preventing nutritious food waste in metro Detroit. The presentation will explore forgotten Harvest’s efforts at curbing hunger in metro Detroit. To learn more, visit

Detective Cherie Mascarello - Michigan DNR Hunter Safety Program, Sponsored by Shorewood Kiwanis

Detective Mascarello will be with us as once again Shorewood and the SCS Police Department are sponsoring the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Hunter Safety Program.  This training is mandatory for anyone born after January 1, 1960 who wish to purchase a Michigan Hunting License.  It is also mandary for anyone who wishes to hunt in Canada or another state. Priority will be given to persons attending this class who attain the age of twelve (12) year by September 30, 2015. Visit our events page here to download the complete program notice.

Jodie Sarsfield and Camile Cashaw, Macomb County Health Department, SE Health Center

Sharon Gwizdowski will be introduing two speakers from Macomb County Health Department.  Jodie Sarsfield B.S., CHES, Public Health Services  Coordinator.  Jodie oversees Health Promotions, Hearing & Vision Program and the Children's Special Health Care Services. Camile Cashaw, Representative, Children's Special Health Care Services. Camille is liaison for Healthcare Coverage and is an advocate for children & families. They will be with us to present an update on how our partnership is benefiting the moms and children and how we are making a difference working together for Tomorrows Today's Children. Shorewood Kiwanis sponsors the Diaper Depot Program and the Young Mothers Closet along with the Health Department assisting in recruiting children for the "Christmas in August" project.
