Shorewood Kiwanis
Serving the St. Clair Shores and Grosse Pointe Communities

What is Kiwanis - Current Events - Links/International and Michigan District

Welcome!

What is Kiwanis? This is a frequently asked question. The official answer is: "Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time." Simply put, we are your friends and, with jobs and professions like your own, yes, even retirees, who have volunteered to help the children and those in need.

All of the money raised by us goes directly to our projects and some local charities e.g. School Dictionary Project, Special Needs Ice Show, Christmas In August and Wigs 4 Kids. No member of Shorewood Kiwanis receives a salary. All administrative costs are borne by means of the club's internal funding, like 50/50 raffles, Happy Dollars; fines and Birthday and Anniversary donations.

We shop with local merchants and encourage others to do the same. When you think of "Kiwanis", think of people helping kids and those in need.

Shorewood members collect your “nickels” on the street corner when we sell peanuts in October and gourmet nuts at Christmas time. Then we use the "nickels" to help the community by doing such things as provide:

  • scholarships for graduating high school students
  • reading material for young patrons of the library
  • supplies for young mothers (diapers, cribs, car seats, etc.)
  • support for Sunday School and Summer Bible School
  • hunter safety classes for young hunters
  • suntan lotion for special needs children when they go fishing with local boaters
  • and lots more.

Every dollar that Shorewood Kiwanis collects from our community goes directly back to our community. Members pay administrative expenses out of their own pocket.

Not just any Spring Divisional, but the Spring Divisional where our own Dr. Carl Papa was officially elected Lt. Governor for our Division! It was a fun, happy and proud day for Shorewood Kiwanis.

Above Left: Lt. Governor Elect Carl Papa, Past Lt. Governor Brenda Sanagustin and Lt. Governor Henry Bowman

Above Center:  Lt. Governor Elect Carl Papa gives the thumbs-up for the upcoming International Convention in Vancouver, Canada

SHOREWOOD KIWANIS RECEIVES ADDITIONAL HONORS

Immediate Past President Peter McInnes was on hand to accept the following distinctive patches on behalf of Shorewood:

          Distinguished Club 2011-2012 - Outstanding Club 2011-2012 - Distinguised Division 2011-2012
Michigan State Police Career Academy 2012 - Sponsorship of Key Club 2012-2013
Service Leadership Fund 2012-2013 - Kiwanis of Michigan Foundation 2011-2012

Shorewood Kiwanis Webmaster attended this event for the first time and highly recommends that our members attend these annual events!  It's fun.  You have a chance to mingle with other Kiwanis club members, exchange ideas and contact information, and get a real sense of being a part of something great, a far-reaching international organization the scope of which you never get to feel at our regular weekly meetings.  Participation in events such as these and Club Growth seminars helps to renew those "aha" moments in your life, reminding you again and again as to why you choose to be a part of such a wonderful service organization.

NOTE:  Coming up in June is our Division One Night at the Races.  See Upcoming Events for complete details.  It is important to have a good turnout at this event not only to support the Kiwanis of Michigan Foundation, but because we are HOSTS for this event.  As a Division One Club, Shorewood members need to support this event with as many attendees as possible!

.

We now meet at Steve's Back Room, 24317 Jefferson, SCS MI -  every Tuesday Morning, 7:30 AM EXCEPT FOR THE FIFTH TUESDAY OF EVERY MONTH. This is reserved for our Members Only Steak Out. Complete details can be found on the Members Pagel
