Franklin Dohanyos, "How to Publicize and Host a big event on a shoe string budget"

Franklin Dohanyos will share with us his tips on how to publicize and host a big event on a shoe string budget. Founder of Franklin Publicity, Inc., a three-time award winning PR firm, Franklin will show us how publicity and proper planning can mean the difference between a good event and a great event. Many of you will remember Franklin from Shorewood’s Pearl Harbor Day remembrance when he played the bagpipes. He is also a published author of three books, including: Zuzu Bailey’s It’s a Wonderful Life Cookbook, The Cats of Our Lives and 501 Golf Jokes for Almost Every Occasion. Walt Young,  Gleaners Community Food Bank of SE Michigan

Walt Young, Gleaners Community Food Bank of SE MI www.gcfb.org. For more than 35 years, Gleaners has been “nourishing communities by feeding hungry people.” Last year, Gleaners distributed 46 million pounds of emergency food to more than 550 partner soup kitchens, shelters and pantries in our community. For every dollar donated, Gleaners uses 93 cents for food and food programs

Shorewood Member Kathleen Zenisek, Marketing Director of First State Bank www.thefsb.com, has a great deal of good information about obtaining your current credit score, mortgages, and getting a jump start on the holidays at the end of this year by opening a Holiday Savings Account. Kathleen write a column in Macomb NOW Magazine. She also has information on the happenings in St. Clair Shores, including the newest Cool Cities project.

Nick Sinacori, Detroit Historian

Long time Detroit historian, Nick Sinacori, will speak about his book, Horsepower, Men and Machines, about the massive changes and shift in culture and economics at the juncture of 19th and 20th century Detroit. It uncovers how the intersection and influence of politics, money, horse racing, and religion combined to change Detroit’s horse based society into the modern manufacturing and automobile era. This speaker has been provided by one of our newest Shorewood members, Linda Mannina.

Rachel Williams, Director of Volunteer Services of Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries www.drmm.org. Every day at the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries, men, women and children are benefited by the services offered. Whether it’s a hot meal, a bed to sleep on, an educational endeavor, or a donation from their warehouse, the DRMM affects the lives of over 1,600 individuals a day.
